WASHINGTON — Capital Stonewall Democrats (CSD) has endorsed Brad Howard for re-election to Advisory Neighborhood Commission seat 1E01, representing northern Park View, in the November 3 general election. The endorsement was decided by a vote of the organization’s members.
“This endorsement means a great deal to me because it comes from people I’ve worked alongside to build LGBTQ+ political power in our city,” said Howard. “Strong organizations give people the opportunity to get involved, develop as leaders and make their voices heard. I’m proud to help do that work at Stonewall, and I bring that same commitment to serving my neighbors in Park View.”
As CSD’s vice president for administration, Howard supports the organization’s executive leadership and is leading an effort to modernize its bylaws and organizational structure. His priorities include making the organization more effective, bringing more diverse voices into decision-making and creating clearer opportunities for members to participate and take on leadership roles.
This summer, Howard chaired CSD’s Pride Committee, organizing the group’s participation in the Capital Pride Parade and mobilizing nearly 50 volunteers to march. The contingent welcomed Democratic mayoral nominee Janeese Lewis George to join members and allies in celebrating LGBTQ+ visibility and political participation.
Howard’s commitment to LGBTQ+ equality brought him to Washington nearly 20 years ago for an internship at the Human Rights Campaign. Today, he also serves in the ANC Rainbow Caucus, continuing his work to expand LGBTQ+ representation and defend equal rights.
“Representation matters at every level of government, including the decisions made right here in our neighborhoods,” Howard said. “Every resident deserves a voice, a responsive government and a real opportunity to shape our community’s future.”
Founded in 1976, Capital Stonewall Democrats is one of the country’s oldest LGBTQ+ Democratic organizations, working to advance LGBTQ+ rights through advocacy, voter education and electoral organizing.
