CRIME: Results, Reforms, and Reinvestments That Keep Us Safe

RESULTS: Public Safety Decisions Should be Driven by Results, Not Partisan Ideology.

• I will keep demanding timely, consistent public-safety data so residents can see what is happening, where resources are being deployed, and whether programs are working. — include somethuing about harsh punishments for those who alfter data or misrepresetn or mislead

• I will continue pressing MPD, violence-intervention providers, and District agencies for specific plans, measurable commitments, and public follow-through.

• When violence occurs, I will keep bringing the responsible officials before residents and pushing until our neighborhood receives an adequate response.

• MPD should follow District law and reject ICE

REFORMS: Use Existing Resources More Effectively

• I will continue fighting for major reforms at the Office of Unified Communications so every 911 call receives a fast and competent response. For instance, the District should consider the various recommendations in the September 2024 DC Auditor’s report, such as recalibrating assignments, boosting the number of detectives investigating homicides and other crimes, and exploring how other police agencies use civilians or other City departments to help with traffic enforcement, crowd control, routine non-emergency calls and people in the throes of mental crises.

• City leaders must also urgently address the Office of Unified Communications (OUC)’s 911 call center, including the creation of an independent task force and the immediate implementation of reforms to increase accountability and transparency within the agency

• I support stronger community policing, including regular community meetings, visible foot patrols, and sustained partnerships between MPD and residents.

• The District should put more officers and detectives where they are needed while using trained civilians and other agencies for duties that do not require an armed police response.

REINVESTMENTS: We Must Reinvest in Law Enforcement and Crime Prevention Services.

• We must recruit, retain, train, and responsibly deploy the public-safety personnel needed to keep residents safe.

• I will continue advocating for mental-health care, substance-use treatment, violence interruption, and meaningful services for returning citizens.

• I will keep fighting for youth jobs, summer and after-school programming, and a safe, fully functioning Park View Recreation Center.

ACCOUNTABILITY: MAKE LOCAL GOVERNMENT DELIVER FOR PARK VIEW

• Fix the Basics: Residents should not have to fight City Hall for trash collection, rat abatement, safe streets, healthy trees, reliable utilities, or a response to a 311 request.

• Escalate and Follow Through: I will continue documenting failures, pressing agency leadership, working with the Council, filing formal complaints when necessary, and following up until the problem is actually resolved.

• Fix the System: Solving one constituent’s problem is not enough. When a failure reveals a broken process, I will push for reforms so the next resident does not face the same obstacle.

• Plan for Growth: Schools, emergency response, transportation, sewers, utilities, parks, and sanitation must improve as our city grows. New development should come with clear infrastructure plans and enforceable responsibilities.

HOUSING: Build More Homes—and Make Growth Work for Current Residents

• More Housing Choices: D.C. needs more homes. I support more apartments, duplexes, triplexes, accessory dwelling units, home conversions, and family-sized housing throughout our community.

• Affordable and Family-Sized Homes: New growth must include homes that working families can afford, including more income-restricted and family-sized units.

• Help Residents Stay and Build Wealth: I support targeted property-tax relief, tenant protections, community land trusts, shared-equity homeownership, assistance for renters seeking to buy, and practical help for longtime homeowners who want to add housing or generate retirement income.

• Eliminate Parking Minimums: The District should not require housing providers to build unnecessary parking that raises costs and makes new homes harder to produce.

• Preserve What Matters: Historic buildings and cultural landmarks deserve protection, but preservation should not become a blanket tool for blocking housing or freezing neighborhoods in place. I oppose the proposed Park View Historic District for this very reason.

TRANSPORTATION: Make Every Trip Safer and More Reliable

• Safer Streets: I will keep fighting for safer crosswalks, better lighting, slower vehicle speeds, daylighted intersections, and proven traffic-calming improvements.

• Reliable Transit: Georgia Avenue needs faster, more dependable bus service and safer, more accessible bus stops.

• Connected Bike Infrastructure: I support more protected bike lanes and a connected network that gets people where they need to go but with smart designs that keep pedestrians safe, especially those pedestrians with disabilities.

• Design for Real Life: Transportation projects must incorporate curb access for people with disabilities, emergency response, deliveries, passenger loading, pedestrian safety, and the needs of nearby businesses and institutions.

• Fair Enforcement: I support automated enforcement and stronger action against dangerous driving, with camera placement based on safety data and penalties structured so accountability does not depend on income.

• Responsible Micromobility: E-bike and scooter operators must prevent sidewalk obstruction and address improperly parked devices quickly. I support more parking corrals, geofencing, sensible speed rules, and user accountability without destroying the convenience of dockless transportation.

COMMUNICATIONS: Regular Updates to Keep You Informed

• Regular Updates: Stay tuned for the launch of multiple platforms, including social media and regular news updates to keep you informed about government actions, meetings, and opportunities for involvement.

• Monthly Community Meetings: I will host monthly community meetings here in Park View to listen to you and keep you informed.

• Responsive Communications: I will continue to respond to you in a timely manner and help as appropriately as I can.

CODE: Promote Better Enforcement & Balanced Zoning Decisions

• Stricter Code Enforcement: I proud to collaborate with City agencies to amplify the issues you bring to my attention. I’ll continue to advocate for more timely inspections and enforcement of building codes and regulations, addressing issues such as unsafe structures, illegal dumping, and overgrown lots.

• Blight Reduction: The City must improve how it identifies and targets blighted properties for rehabilitation or demolition.

• Smarter Zoning: I’ll keep pushing for smarter zoning decisions that balance our affordable housing needs with protect residents’ access to green spaces and shows respect for long-time and existing residents and homeowners. If we grow without addressing noise, parking, property value impacts, and safety, we risk ruining all the things that make Park View great.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: Revitalize Georgia Avenue

• Business Support and Development: I will explore how the City can help local small businesses during and after construction whose operations may be affected.

• Balanced Infrastructure: I am a strong supporter of a balanced approach that ensures a safe, accessible environment for pedestrians, cyclists, bus riders, and drivers, while also encouraging increased foot traffic for Georgia Avenue’s small businesses.

• Community Involvement: The City must engage residents in the planning and decision-making process through regular meetings and feedback sessions, ensuring this project and all others meet the needs and desires of our community.

CARE: Ensuring Inclusivity & Accessibility for All Residents

• Language and Accessibility Services: I am pushing for translation and interpretation services at meetings and in official communications and ensure meetings and materials are accessible to people with disabilities.

• Transparent Decision-Making: I’m working to ensure transparency in all ANC decisions by providing clear explanations of policy decisions and their impacts.

• Designate Community Liaisons: I will soon designate community liaisons who can help engage underrepresented groups.
